Many Municipalities have a backbone network built based on industrial communication multiplexers. This network consists of ring interconnections linked together by fibre optic cables. The multiplexers on the network provides transport and telecommunication services between the SCADA located at the master station and the RTUs located at the different sites. The SCADA system at the control centre acquires data and operates primary and secondary plant equipment at the various substations around the city via the installed RTUs. This promotes the automation process that has been necessitated at this municipalities.
